Doyna now speaks Română natively
Not translated. Not retrofitted. Rebuilt from the embedding layer up so Doyna responds, reasons, and automates in Romanian as fluently as it does in English.
We're based in Cluj, and about half the team ships Romanian-first. But until this release, Doyna was an English-first product with a thin translation layer bolted on. That meant two things that annoyed us:
- Rules written in Romanian broke. Telling Doyna
nu mai vreau emailuri de la [email protected]would sometimes work and sometimes mysteriously match English phrasing instead. - Voice responses sounded foreign. The ElevenLabs voice we used wasn't trained on Romanian prosody, so it was technically correct but subtly wrong — like a foreigner who took three years of Duolingo.
In this release, both are fixed, and Romanian is now a first-class language throughout Doyna:
- The AI assistant reasons in Romanian without an internal translation step. Ask a question in Romanian, get an answer in Romanian, with source citations from Romanian-language emails and documents.
- Email rules work in plain Romanian.
"arhivează automat newslettere-le de marți"is now a valid rule. - Voice TTS uses an ElevenLabs voice trained specifically on Romanian.
- The web interface has a language toggle — switch everything between EN and RO with one click (check the top-right of this page).
- Search is bilingual — ask a question in Romanian, Doyna will find relevant documents in both Romanian and English, and vice versa.
If you're a Romanian knowledge worker, this is the release that makes Doyna actually usable for your day-to-day. Suntem de-ai voștri acum. Kind of.
